| Edson Fernandes |
Cockatoos,
Parrots, Macaws, Owls, Hawks, Eagles, birds in general are Edison Fernandes’ specialty. One would never guess the artistry
that exists within this simple somewhat shy man. His detailing so intricate that even the smallest feather bares the lines
from shaft to edges. The one-of-a-kind creations are so lifelike that though you know they are carved of stone you expect
them to actually get up and fly. And their bases are often museum quality Quartz Cluster, Jacare, & Tourmaline mineral
specimens that normally sell alone for more than the price of the bird and base.

Stones of
Brasil has been selling Edison’s carvings since the inception of our business
as Ziegler Imported Stone and have sold these birds to people from all over the world. Many people believe that these
carvings are superior to those of Peter Muller’s of the H. Sterns Jewelry Stores fame. We believe this is because
Edison’s birds are all individual creations carved by the artist himself. So individual, that people often comment on
the different expressions of each birds face. Often upon Mr. Ziegler’s arrival at shows in The States these
are the first items to go. They are very popular with jewelry stores, antiques dealers, and art galleries. We in fact have
one client who has purchased over a hundred of Edson's pieces! Stones of Brasil has received many
comments from customers that they had no idea from the pictures just how nice these birds actually are and has not had one
returned to us.

Edison’s workshop is located at the back his home,
an unassuming house in an unpretentious neighborhood of Valadares. He lives there with his wife and three children and has
just had a new baby boy. His brother-in-law Jeovane lives and works there as well creating Crystal Points & Spheres. Their
shop contains all the necessary tools of their trade and it is quite something to watch the process of a chunk of quartz rough
transforming into a majestic Bald Eagle. The amount of work and skill that goes into each piece is absolutely amazing!
